Youth : Family Support
This service operates from 125 Colombo Street and was established to support children and their families where a member “Parent/Caregiver” is affected by mental illness and where this impairs the quality of life for that family. There are two components to the service:
1. One to one support for the parent.
This service provides an experienced support professional who visits people in their own homes and works towards a planned intervention of support around managing the demands of their mental illness.
2. Programme and one to one work with the child.
This service uses the COPMI (Children of Parents with a Mental illness) model of care as its foundational intervention approach. There are two components to this service - weekend fun and recreational programmes (two different age groups: 7-12 years and 13-16 years), one-on-one visits with children or young people needing extra support. The graduates of this service are invited back to support others coming through.
